REDDING, Calif. — The 19th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team forced 30 turnovers and Whitney Scott tallied 16 points to help the Raiders post a 75-54 victory over Simpson University Tuesday night.

The Red Hawks (0-5) hung with the Raiders through the beginning of the first half, evening the score at 9-9 before SOU began to pull away.

A layup by Jacki Speer and a 3-pointer by Scott pushed the SOU lead to 14-9. Scott then turned a turnover into a layup and after another breakaway layup by Carly Wood, the Raiders were cruising at 20-12.

SOU (2-0) held Simpson to 29 percent shooting in the first half as it built a 35-22 halftime lead.

The Raiders, who had trouble shooting themselves, hit on 40 percent of their shoots in the second half to put the game away.

Scott drained four 3-pointers and also added five assists.

Speer finished with 11 points and nine rebounds and Ashley Baker had 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Raiders return to action Friday when they face Fresno Pacific in Rocklin, Calif. at the William Jessup Invitational.
