Ashland compiled 32 hits and received outstanding pitching from Garrett Tygerson in the opener as the Pilots coasted to a sweep of Phoenix, Sunday at Hagler-James Field in Talent.




Ashland won the first game 20-5 in five innings and the second game 19-8 in six innings.




In the opener, Tygerson gave up one hit &

a single to lead off the game &

through three innings of work. He also permitted just one walk and struck out three.




Tygerson and Hayden Miller each collected three hits, three RBIs and two runs.




Kealii Cecil had three hits as well, and belted a two-run home run to cap the fourth inning where the Pilots (20-6, 18-4 Area 4) amassed nine runs.




The Pilots' Ian Kendall had a double and a triple in both contests.




In Game 1, he went 2-for-4, scored twice and pushed across a pair of runs.




Kendall followed up with a 2-for-5, three-run, three-RBI performance in the nightcap.




Josh McLaughlin and Nick Hall each had three hits in Game 2. Hall scored three times while McLaughlin drove in three runs and scored twice.




Jordan Decker went 3-for-3 in the second contest for Phoenix.

Babe Ruth (13s)




At Central Point, with exceptional defensive behind him, James Dixon pitched a complete game for Upper Rogue in its 14-3 victory over Ashland in the 13-year-old Babe Ruth District 4 championship game at Anhorn Field on Sunday.




The victory makes Upper Rogue the top seed from the District 4 heading into Thursday's state tournament at The Yard.




Ashland earned a 1-0, eight-inning win over Central Point on Saturday behind an outstanding combined pitching effort by Evan Westhelle-Grant and William Crowley.




On Sunday, Dixon struck out five in seven innings and did not issue a walk. The right-hander's defense contributed with mistake-free play.




Brandon Wilson went 3-for-4 for Upper Rogue.




Upper Rogue received a two-run double from Cody Frazier in the third inning and a two-run single from Cody Pfister in the fifth.




Babe Ruth (14s)




Ethan Schlecht went 2-for-3 with two doubles to lead Ashland's 14-year-old Babe Ruth all-stars, who scored seven runs in the fourth inning en route to a 7-0 District 4 playoff win over Upper Rogue on Saturday at North Mountain Park.




Taylor Humphrey added a triple, Collin Hamel started the key rally with an RBI single and seven other Ashland players also had hits as Ashland sent 11 batters to the plate in the fourth to blow the game open.




"From the leadoff to my No. 9 batter, all the kids came through big in that fourth inning," Ashland coach Doug Hamel said.




Ashland also got outstanding pitching, as five players pitched a combined one-hitter.
