Ashland Birth Center sponsored the Fourth of July Baby Contest just after nap time on Sunday at Ashland Community Hospital Diagnostic and Surgery Center lobby to avoid the heat. Twenty-five babies competed for "quickest smile," "baldest head," "chubbiest cheeks" and other categories. Prizes included a place on the Fourth of July Parade float, children's books from Tree House Books and silver baby cups for Mr. and Miss Fourth of July. Five judges met each baby while completing the task of naming the winners. The babies ranged in age from — to 12 months.

The title Miss Fourth of July was given to Mae Woodward, daughter of Kelleen and Daniel Woodward. Jax North, son of Kissoon Lewis, was named Mr. Fourth of July. Mae and Jax will ride together on a vintage car in the parade on Friday.

The category winners included: Elijah Caucutt, Quickest Smile; Mason Boney, Wildest Hair; Aliya Parr, Chubbiest Cheeks; James Beers, Bluest Eyes; Abigail Taylor, Darkest Eyes; and Tigerlily Topaz Makani, Baldest Head.

All six category winners will ride on the annual Fourth of July Baby Parade float on their parents' laps, wearing their red, white and blue crowns while bubbles float overhead and lullaby music plays.

The Fourth of July Baby Contest is a longstanding tradition in Ashland, originated by the local Ashland chapter of Soroptomist International.
