Abby Young, a graduating senior at Ashland High School, will present her senior violin recital at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at Temple Emek Shalom, 1800 East Main St., Ashland. The concert is free and will feature solo and ensemble pieces from a broad range of styles and musical genres. The concert will highlight Young's command of a diverse repertoire of music, including classical, klezmer and Celtic selections.

Young has been studying violin in Ashland for 13 years, first with Kendra Law and then with Faina Podolnaya, her current teacher. She has collaborated and performed for years with musicians from the Rogue Valley. She is the current concertmaster of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon and has performed at venues ranging from pubs in Ireland to Carnegie Hall in New York, with many local spots in between. Young is offering this concert as a thank-you to those who have been a part of her musical upbringing.

Young will be joined by a variety of musicians, including Podolnaya, brother Gabe Young on saxophone and oboe, father David Young on guitar and members of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon and Siskiyou Violins. She will leave this fall to attend the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon, where she will continue her music studies.
