lecture: Siskiyou Views Lecture will present "Ovid's Metamorphoses: Barry Kraft Celebrates the Roman Masterpiece of Transformation and Love" at 4 p.m. Monday, May 19, in the Hannon Library Meese Meeting Room (LIB 305), Southern Oregon University, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. On this 2000th anniversary of the creation of "Metamorphoses" by Ovid, and in conjunction with the Southern Oregon University Theatre Arts spring 2008 production of Mary Zimmerman's "Metamorphoses," Kraft will talk about and read from fresh translations of this classic text. Kraft has been a professional actor for over 40 years, including 22 seasons at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and seasons at San Diego's Old Globe, Utah Shakespeare, and several years at A.C.T. writing class: Rabbi David Zaslow will teach a free class at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at the Havurah Synagogue, 185 N. Mountain Ave., Ashland. The class will include the techniques for writing sacred, liturgical poetry in the style of King David and Rumi. Participants will learn how to access images of the Divine that make up a great poem. reading: As part of its free Thursday at the Library events, the Eagle Point Friends of the Library will host Lawson Inada, from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Eagle Point Branch Library, 239 West Main St., Eagle Point. Twice Oregon's Poet Laureate and winner of the 1992 American Book Award, Inada will talk about "You Too Can Write Poetry." The book poses the question: what if the fatal bullet fired on that sunny Dallas afternoon had veered three inches off target?
