The Siskiyou Institute welcomes back Grammy-nominated pianist, composer, educator and author Mark Levine. The jazz pianist will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, at The Old Siskiyou Barn, Ashland.




Levine will be joined by bassist John Witala. Author of the "Piano Book" and the "Jazz Theory Book," Levine has performed and recorded with many jazz luminaries, including Woody Shaw, Mongo Santamaria, Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson, Freddie Hubbard, Cal Tjader, Tito Puente, Milt Jackson, David Liebman, Blue Mitchell, Pete Escovedo, James Moody, Art Farmer, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Fortune, Eddie Harris, Clark Terry, Charlie Rouse, Bobby Watson, Chet Baker, Mark Murphy, Art Pepper, Steve Turre and Poncho Sanchez.




Tickets to the concert are $20 and $15 for students.




Levine will give a Jazz Theory Workshop/Lecture at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at The Old Siskiyou Barn. The event is open to all instruments and vocalists with an interest in developing their understanding of jazz theory and jazz improvisation. Tickets for the workshop are $10 for the general public and free to students and teachers.
