Jefferson Public Radio and Jefferson Classical Guitar Society will present a concert with Grammy Award-winning classical guitarist David Russell.




The performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Ashland High School, Mountain Avenue Theatre, 201 S. Mountain Ave., Ashland.




Russell's program will feature a varied program with works by Arcas, Couperin, Albeniz, Loeillet, Verdery, and Rosheger.




Russell is internationally renowned for his musicianship and artistry which have earned the highest praise from audiences and critics alike.




In recognition of his talent and career, Russell was named a Fellow of The Royal Academy of Music in London in 1997.




In November 2003 Russell was awarded the Medal of Honor of the Conservatory of the Balearics.




After winning the Grammy Award in 2005 for his CD "Aire Latino" (Best Instrumental Soloist in Classical music), he received the silver medal of Nigr&

225;n, the town in Spain where he resides.




During his studies at the Royal Academy, Russell won the Julian Bream Guitar Prize twice.




He went on to win numerous international competitions including the Andr&

233;s Segovia Competition, the Jos&

233; Ramirez Competition and Spain's Francisco T&

225;rrega Competition.




Upon hearing him playing in London, Andr&

233;s Segovia wrote: "My congratulations on your musicality and guitaristic technique."




Russell spends his time touring the world, appearing regularly at concert halls in cities such as New York, London, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Madrid, Toronto, and Rome.




This year the music conservatory of Vigo, Spain honored the guitarist by naming its new auditorium "Auditorio David Russell."




Russell has recorded 11 CDs.




His most recent CD, "Air on a G String," was released last month.




Tickets are $25 general admission and $5 for students.




Children under 12 are admitted free.
