The Grizzlies overcame the wind, the cold and the rest of the Southern Sky Conference on Monday.

Ashland received 7-over 79s from Clint Murphy and Jordan Wright to get a 24-stroke SSC victory at a chilly, gusty Harbor Links Golf Course Monday at Klamath Falls.

"Considering the wind, they didn't do bad," Ashland head coach John Skinner said.

Matt Naylor's 82 also helped Ashland score 331 on the afternoon, upping the Grizzlies' lead in the overall standings to 92 strokes. Ashland topped Mazama and Klamath Union, both of which shot 356.

Klamath Union's Carter Mast shot a 4-over 76 to secure medalist honors, and Seth Reynolds notched an 83.

John Williams shot an 88 and was the first Crater golfer to break 90 this season. Eagle Point's Travis Hawthorne also paced his team with an 88.

Ashland and the rest of the conference now enters the home stretch of the regular season. Next up is another all-SSC match Monday at Running Y, followed by the Phoenix Invitational on April 30. After that is the SSC district meet, May 5-6 at Klamath Union.

If the Grizzlies hold their lead in the league standings, they'll clinch an automatic team berth to the state championships, May 12-13 at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.

"I'd say potentially, we could be a top 10 school (at state)," Skinner said. "It's kind of like driving an eight-cylinder car and only six cylinders are firing. Our only senior, Cameron (Clement) has just struggled. But I know Cameron, and I know that by the time we go to districts his game will come around."
