Billionaire Paul Allen has awarded nearly $12 million in grants to Northwest nonprofits, including $300,000 to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
Twenty Oregon nonprofits will receive money from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, although the bulk will go to 46 organizations in Washington state.
Oregon's biggest grant recipient was the Neighborhood Partnership Fund. The nonprofit for affordable housing was awarded $400,000 over three years.
And the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland will receive $300,000 over three years to fund its 2008-10 seasons.
Most of the rest of the Oregon recipients were arts and culture organizations in Portland.
A handful of nonprofits in Alaska, Idaho and Montana also were awarded grants.
