Ashland junior forward Lewis Sebrell scored a pair of second-period goals to help the Grizzlies build a 4-0 lead and defeat Klamath Falls 4-1 on Wednesday in Southern League hockey playoffs at The RRRink.
Junior defenseman Mathias Dean opened the scoring early in the first period and junior forward/defenseman Casey Skolnik added a goal in the second before Sebrell helped the Grizzlies pull away.
Junior Josh McLaughlin assisted Dean's goal and also Sebrell's first goal. Ashland senior goalkeeper Kyle Smelcer recorded 11 saves.
Klamath Falls scored its only goal with 7:35 remaining in the third period when freshman forward Chad Steiner found the net.
Alex Young, a senior, stopped 26 shots for the Ice Hawks.
Ashland advances to face North Medford on Saturday at 5 p.m. while Klamath Falls faces Crater on Saturday at — p.m. in an elimination game.
Grizzlies' junior defenseman Kai White suffered a broken arm.
In the late game Wednesday, freshman forward Dane Irving scored five times while junior Wyatt Small added three goals and three assists as South Medford beat Crater 14-2.
Senior forward Kyle Smith added back-to-back goals in the second period and senior defenseman Kyler Taft scored one goal and added two assists.
Crater's standout performer was freshman goalkeeper Alec Williamson, who stopped 54 of South's 68 shots on goals.
Senior forward Alex Hagemann scored both of the Comets' goals, the first coming unassisted with :17 remaining in the first, which tied the game at 1-1. He added a second goal on an assist by freshman defenseman Bryce Crawford with 12 minutes to play in the second period and Crater trailing 5-1.
South's senior goalkeeper John Adamson stopped 34 shots. Senior forward Zack MacDonald, freshman defenseman Andrew Phillips and junior forward Jed Rennels also had goals for the Panthers (10-2-1), who play next Wednesday.
