Despite a 19-18 dual loss to Menlo College in its final dual of the season Saturday, the Southern Oregon University wrestling team still recorded its 38th straight year with a winning record.

The dual against the visiting Oaks came down to the final match of the night at McNeal Pavilion. Jessie Ruiz's 9-4 heavyweight win over SOU's Skylar Massey provided Menlo with the margin of victory.

"We came up a little short, but I wasn't discouraged," Southern Oregon coach Mike Ritchey said. "We didn't wrestle bad. We could have wrestled a little smarter in a couple of matches. I was disappointed because our seniors didn't go out on a winning note."

In the premier match of the night, Menlo's Robert Davis, the West Region No. — seed, defeated second-ranked Jimmy Ulrey, 7-2, at 165.

"It was a little closer than that because (Ulrey) had to take some chances at the end," said Ritchey. "We'll see if we can turn that around in the regionals next weekend."

The Raiders, who finished the dual season with an 11-9 record, will compete in the NAIA West Regional at Great Falls, Mont., next Saturday.

Women's basketball

Thanks to an unexpected boost from Evergreen, Southern Oregon University heads into the final week of the regular season tied with Eastern Oregon for first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.

Evergreen stunned Eastern Oregon 67-63 on Saturday night to create a deadlock atop the CCC standings between the Raiders (24-4, 15-3 league) and Mountaineers (22-4, 15-3). SOU can clinch at least a co-conference title by beating Corban and Concordia at home this weekend. That sweep would also clinch for the Raiders an automatic berth to the NAIA Division II national tournament.
