A Southern Oregon University student was struck by a car while crossing Siskiyou Boulevard Wednesday night, police said, and she remained in critical condition this morning.

The student, Gladys Jimenez, 22, was in the crosswalk at Siskiyou Boulevard and Garfield Street near SOU when she was hit by a Ford station wagon.

The driver, 59-year-old Lesley Orr of Ashland, was not cited late Wednesday, and the investigation continued into today according to Sergeant Bob Smith.

The girl was hit by the left front quarter panel and was thrown in the air before landing on the windshield, police said. She was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, and was still listed in critical condition Thursday morning. Police did not name specific injuries.

Traffic was slowed in the area while a crash reconstruction team worked the scene.
