The Southern Oregon University women's tennis team opened its season with three consecutive team victories over Willamette, Pacific and Lewis Clark recently.




Katie Ross played No. — singles and No. — doubles for the Raiders and went undefeated against Lewis Clark on Feb. 10 and Pacific on Feb. 8. Results from the SOU-Willamette match were not available at press time.

College softball




At Grants Pass, forced to move their season opener to Grants Pass High School's softball field, the Southern Oregon University softball team lost a doubleheader to Azusa Pacific Friday afternoon, 5-0 and 16-8.




Game — was a pitcher's duel, but Azusa pounded out 11 hits to win. In the second game, Azusa sent 16 players to bat in the first inning and scored 12 runs to take a big lead. The visitors extended their cushion to 16-0 in the second inning when Natalie Mickelson hit a grand slam home run.




SOU came back to score eight runs in the final three innings led by Christa Simon and Kim Christensen. Simon went 2-for-2 at the plate with two triples, two runs, and an RBI, while Christensen was 1-for-3, and scored three runs.
