The Ashland Planning Commission will look at several building projects involving the Ashland School District at its regular meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at 1175 E. Main St.

The commission continued the public hearing on the Bellview Elementary School last month because the Ogden Roemer Wilkerson Architecture firm in Medford had requested a variance to the number of bicycle racks it had to provide and because of time constraints.

David Wilkerson, with the Medford firm, said he had presented the request for 33 bicycle parking spaces rather than the 68 required by city ordinance at January's commission meeting because the Bellview design committee, made up of parents and teachers, thought the required amount of spaces was excessive.

"We will be presenting an updated design to the commission Tuesday that includes 68 bicycle parking spaces," he said. "And we've addressed other concerns by the bike commission."

The planning commission will also look at site plans for a 19,375-square-foot auxiliary gym and music suite addition on the Ashland High School campus, also being handled by Wilkerson's firm in Medford.

The application proposes demolishing the existing auxiliary gym and music suite, renovating the 22,024-square-foot main gym, and reconfiguring the parking area east of the existing gym building.

The application also requests a variance to the required sideyard setback along South Mountain Avenue. The architecture firm is proposing a ramp, stairs and landings to the property line where a minimum 10-foot-sideyard setback is required.
