Hardesty's

criticism of

Tidings unfair

I don't understand what it means to "politicize the newspaper," as Councilor Alice Hardesty put it (Jan. 30). Since their inception, local newspapers have reported and taken positions on issues, personalities and candidates that affect their communities. Useful local newspapers are expected to detect the bull (of which Ashland has its share), inform, raise the alarm and fight the good fight against ideas, laws, or actions perceived to be inimical to the interests of the community. A local rag is also expected to keep a discerning eye on the local pols, power brokers, and keepers of the public purse strings. Many papers are happy to be known as conservative, center, liberal, or whatever they perceive reflects the community's bias.

Hardesty has been thrusting herself into Ashland's planning and political arena for over a decade now. For a person of her intelligence and experience, it can't be a surprise that her public actions will blip across the Tidings' radar screen. Most blips go without comment. Occasionally, the Tidings' and Hardesty's goals align. Occasionally, they don't.

Twenty-thousand residents assure that politics in Ashland is going to being more akin to being in a hot kitchen than sipping tea at a window table with a friend. Hardesty may still want to reconsider her options.

The silent screams of

abortion victims

Can you remember the moment you were born? Try to picture yourself: A pink baby breathing your first gust of fresh air.

Now move the camera back in time five minutes. You're that same exact baby, waiting to take that breath.

What if at that moment, your mother decided she didn't want a child? What if she hired a doctor to kill you (without painkiller)?

If you wouldn't want that done to you, then I suggest you follow the Golden Rule """Do unto others what you would want done onto you" &

and oppose Roe vs. Wade. That court case made it legal for mothers to order their babies to be killed even five minutes before coming out of the womb.

(All women have to do is "prove" that the abortion would protect their health. This loophole allows women to get abortions to prevent "anxiety," "depression," and I think virtually any symptom.)

Let's go back to you: the baby, five minutes away from breathing your first breath. You're essentially the same baby that you'll be five minutes from now. Why should you have to come out of the womb in order to be protected from murder? The exit from the womb is purely an arbitrary point that many people choose in order to distinguish "abortion" from "murder."

I almost want to laugh when I hear the phrase "pro-choice." It egocentrically only counts the choice of the woman. It ignores the choice of the human inside.

Even humans in the womb seem to exercise choice &

or at least they try to. If you watch the film "The Silent Scream," you'll see an eight-week-old gestating human being struggle frantically as the abortionist sticks his knife into the womb. The eight-week-old opens his mouth in an apparent scream.

Then the abortionist gets on the film. He says that he's done about 10,000 or 20,000 abortions. He confesses that after watching the ultrasound and seeing that eight-week-old struggle and apparently scream, he'll never do another abortion again.

It's time to take back America

It's time to take back America from the Cheney / Bush dictatorship! This is not partisan politics &

it's just common sense. Anybody who doesn't see the handwriting on the wall just doesn't have their eyes open.

The blatant disregard for the people of this nation &

the intelligence of the people of this nation &

the needs of the people of this nation and the lies, lies, lies must be addressed now!

Anyone who breaks the law should be held accountable &

especially the President and Vice President. Our liberties have been taken away and this nation is being destroyed from the top. If we do nothing, we give our consent!

The constitution gives us a way to remove from office those who break the laws while in office. There are so many reasons why impeachment is called for in addition to the lies about Iraq that got us into the war, but here are three others:

1. Violating U.S. law and the Constitution through widespread wiretapping of the phone calls and emails of Americans without a warrant.

2. Violating the Constitution by using "signing statements" to defy hundreds of laws passed by Congress.

3. Violating U.S. and state law by obstructing honest elections in 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006.

Please bring integrity back into American government. Impeach Cheney and Bush Now!
