The Southern Oregon University wrestling team crowned five champions on Saturday at the Boxer Open.

The Raiders also qualified three wrestlers for the NAIA West regional and National Championships. It is the 13th straight season in which SOU has qualified a full team to the national tournament.

Barry Johnson, at 141 pounds, Seth Roy (149) and Jason Appleton (174) each qualified for the national tournament held in March in Sioux City, Iowa.

Heavyweight Marcus Moore defeated two Division I opponents to win his bracket.

"He's doing a better job of playing the game," said SOU coach Mike Ritchey of Moore. "It's a chess match and he's figured that out. He was just dominant in the finals."

The Raiders placed 12 wrestlers in the top four, including senior Jason Appleton, who dominated his Oregon State opponent Brandon Perkins in the finals, 11-5.

"We are starting to hit that stride," said Ritchey. "We've had a tough schedule up to this point and it's paying off. We're getting more agressive and getting after people.

"I'm feeling really good about the confidence of our guys."
