Matt Lipski scored 24 points and Dillon Thigpen added 13 as Ashland crushed Eagle Point 68-48 in Southern Sky Conference boys basketball action Saturday at Mountain Avenue Gym.

Lipski, a 6-foot-9 senior post, also had seven rebounds and four blocks and shot 11-for-16 from the field.

Ashland (6-0 SSC) outscored Eagle Point 17-10 in the first quarter and never trailed, utilizing a full-court pressure defense that forced the Eagles into 16 turnovers.

The win sets up a crucial game between Ashland and Crater (11-6, 4-1 SSC), Tuesday at Central Point. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:15 p.m., with the Ashland-Crater girls game to follow at about 7 p.m.

Girls basketball

At Eagle Point, Kelsey McKinnis poured in a season-high 20 points for Ashland which went 25-for-35 from the floor in a 66-31 Southern Sky Conference rout Saturday over Eagle Point.

Allison Gida netted 17, Brenna Heater had 11 points and four rebounds and Layla Zare had 10 points for the Grizzlies (17-2, 6-0 SSC), which won its 17th straight game after starting the season 0-2.

The Grizzlies were in control by halftime with a 36-8 lead.

Kristen Wyatt led Eagle Point (4-14, 1-6 SSC) with eight points.

Men's basketball

At Olympia, Wash., Nate Menefee, the Cascade Conference's leading scorer hit a game high 24 points in leading the Evergreen State Geoducks to an 86-75 win over the Southern Oregon University Saturday night.

The Geoducks led 36-27 at halftime. A second half shooting spree of 19 of 33 (58 percent) helped Evergreen build a big lead. SOU would cut the lead several times to nine points but couldn't get any closer.

Five Raiders scored double figures including Josh McDermott who led SOU scorers with 14 points on 6-9 shooting. Matt Cowell had 12 but was injured late in the game. Ryon Pool had 12 points, Kory Mahr chipped in 11 and David Grant also scored 11 points.

Southern Oregon (7-15, 3-9 Cascade) returns home against College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon next weekend at Ashland.

Women's basketball

At Olympia, Wash, Rhiannon Dickison scored 19 points, including five three pointers, to help Southern Oregon overcome a seven point halftime deficit and get the 94-76 win over Evergreen State.

Southern Oregon had five players score in double figures, with Dickison's 19 leading the way. Chelsey Muri added 18 points to go along with — assists and — steals. Ashley Baker also had 13 points, Kellyn Cooper 12, and Whitney Scott 10.

Dickison scored her 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and 5-of-7 shooting from the 3-point line.

Rosalind Lee led Evergreen State with 16 points, and Kristi Auckland chipped in with 13 in the loss.

The Raiders improve to 10-2 in the Cascade Conference and 19-3 overall.
