Jacki Speer had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Chelsey Muri added 16 points as the Southern Oregon University women's basketball team continued its hottest stretch in years Friday with an 84-70 road win over Northwest University.
The Raiders led 41-36 at the break then shot 53 percent in the second half to pull away for the Cascade Collegiate Conference victory. Speer hit 8 of 12 shots in the win, which allowed the Raiders (18-3, 9-2 CCC) to stay a game behind first-place Eastern Oregon (16-2, 10-1) in the league standings.
Southern Oregon will host Eastern Oregon next weekend.
Northwest (2-17, 1-10) was led by Brittany Bowsher and Erika Hornyack, who combined to score 34 points.
At Kirkland, Wash., Greg George had 27 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to lead Northwest University to an 86-73 win over Southern Oregon on Friday night.
The loss dropped the Raiders to 7-14 overall and 3-8 in the Cascade Conference, while Northwest improved to 11-9 and 7-4.
Southern Oregon was paced by Ryon Pool, who hit 9 of 21 shots on his way to a team-high 25 points and seven rebounds. Kory Mahr added 12 points and 10 boards for the Raiders, who face Evergreen State on Saturday.
At Klamath Falls, Jesse Javna scored 13 points to lead Ashland to a 55-48 win over Mazama on Friday night in a Southern Sky Conference match up.
Matt Lipski scored all 10 of his points in the third quarter to help the Grizzlies (10-8, 5-0 SSC) put some distance on the Vikings.
Kolton Nelson led Mazama with 16 points.
