A 49-year-old woman who had sex with two 15-year-old boys pleaded guilty to sex abuse and was sentenced to 60 days in the Malheur County Jail.
Janis Ribeiro, a former Ontario resident who now lives in Burns, was also sentenced this week to three years supervised probation and a supervised aftercare sexual offender treatment program. She already completed 90 days of sexual offender treatment at a private facility in Texas. She entered the program in October and was released last Thursday.
The crimes were committed last spring. According to police reports, Ribeiro sometimes met the boys at night, picking them up outside their homes. Ribeiro and the victims would drive to a secluded location and have sexual intercourse and oral sex.
The authorities were alerted by the parents of one boy and an adult acquaintance of the other. Police also confiscated sexually explicit e-mails and online chat and text messages.
Neither boy was at the hearing, but the parents of one victim did attend, complaining about the plea agreement and the length of the sentence.
District Attorney Dan Norris said both sets of parents and the victims themselves wanted the case resolved as quickly as possible.
He said the parents wanted to spare their children from testifying in court and sought to avoid the kind of publicity that was sparked when a Fruitland, Idaho, woman was arrested on charges involving a 17-year-old boy last fall.
"I understand the victims' concerns," Norris said. "But the judge was very limited in what the law allowed him to do."
