The Varsity Theatre is due for a facelift and some minor interior surgery.

Starting Monday, crews will be repairing the front entrance on East Main Street back to its original condition, said Mark Edwards, director of purchasing and maintenance for Coming Attractions Theatres. Renovations were necessary to remove recently discovered dry rot, but the appearance will remain unchanged.

"It's the Varsity," Edwards said. "We don't want to change that. Too many people love the Varsity."

The two smaller theaters will also be closed one at a time for about a month to install stadium seating, Edwards said, to provide a "better movie-going experience."

All repairs should be completed before the Ashland Independent Film Festival in April.
