Ashland senior Stephan McLaughlin scored four goals and had three assists as the second-place Grizzlies pounded winless Crater 9-3 Wednesday night at The RRRink.
McLaughlin tallied Ashland's final goal of the first period to give the Grizzlies a 3-1 lead. He added one goal in the second frame and two more in the final stanza.
Casey Skolnik, who added two goals and four assists, opened the scoring for Ashland less than two minutes into the game. Mathias Dean gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 advantage before Bryce Crawford cut the margin to 2-1 for the Comets.
Freshman Sam Taylor and Ben O'Donnell also scored goals for Ashland, while Josh McLaughlin and Trevor Perry each had three assists.
Cameron Hodenfield accounted for a pair of Comet goals in the third period. Cody Martin had two assists for Crater.
Ashland's Kyle Smelcer stopped 10 of 11 shots prior to going to the bench with 10 minutes left.
Alex Williamson had 12 saves for Crater.
