Musicians from the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon will present two free concerts of chamber music this weekend.




The first concert will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at First Presbyterian Church, 405 East California St., Jacksonville.




The second concert will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Great Hall, Main and Pioneer streets, Ashland.




String quartets, a wind quartet, a wind quintet, a string trio and a brass ensemble will perform excerpts and movements from works by J. S. Bach, Joseph Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Schubert and many others. Professional musicians, including Penny Austin, Pat Berlet, Scott Cole, Bruce Dresser, Beth Goldstein, Cynthia Hutton, Kristin Kessler, Gary Kroll and Beth Martin, coached the YSSO's chamber music ensembles this year in preparation for the concerts.




The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon is a not-for-profit educational and cultural organization serving Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls and the surrounding communities. This year more than 170 musicians are participating in the YSSO.
