KLAMATH FALLS &

The Southern Oregon University women's basketball team improved to 6-2 on the season after routing Kwantlen University 107-43 on Saturday at the Oregon Tech Classic at Danny Miles Court.




The teams were tied at 11-11 before the Southern Oregon defensive pressure helped the Raiders to easy baskets and a 51-12 run that resulted in a 62-23 lead at the half.




The Raiders caused 24 turnovers and held the Eagles to only eight second-half baskets in the rout.




SOU shot 47.3 percent from the floor on 43-for-91 shooting, compared to only 26.3 percent from Kwantlen.




The Raiders also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Eagles 63-34.




Carly Wood led Southern Oregon with a game-high 21 points and seven assists, while Tiffany Rich recorded a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds.




SOU returns home next Saturday to play Holy Names University at 7 p.m. at McNeal Pavilion.




Boys basketball




Henley used a half-court trap in the third quarter to battle back from a halftime deficit in a 62-54 nonconference win over Ashland on Saturday.




Ashland (1-5) led 27-24 at halftime but was outscored 15-6 in the third.




Garrett Tygerson and Dillon Thigpen each scored 18 points for the Grizzlies, who were hampered when center Matt Lipski got into early foul trouble.

Girls basketball




At Grants Pass, Brenna Heater scored 17 points and added nine rebounds and four blocks to lead Ashland to a 46-37 nonconference win over Grants Pass on Saturday.




Kelsey McKinnis added 15 points for the Grizzlies (3-2), while Allison Gida had 10 points, six assists and four steals.




Kayla Loffer led Grants Pass (3-1) with 10 points.
