Alex Harris, a son of long time Ashland residents Dan and Susan Harris, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of Ashand troop
Harris completed the community service project, required for this award, by reconstructing a 190-foot section of the main trail passing through Lithia Park which had been badly damaged by a landslide last Winter. The project required a total of 90 man-hours to complete and involved the assistance of fifteen volunteers from the community. Harris' scouting experience was highlighted by a two-week, 85-mile backpacking trek in a remote area of the Rocky Mountains.
In receiving this award, Harris continues a family tradition of excellence in scouting. Two of his brothers, his father, three uncles and four cousins have all received the eagle rank.
Harris is a sophomore at Ashland High School where he is a member of the water polo and tennis teams, and will be eligible to become a member of the National Honor Society after this semester.
