The Southern Oregon University volleyball team is rated second and the SOU men's cross country team is third, as the Cascade Conference preseason coaches polls for the league's five intercollegiate fall sports were released Monday.




Concordia took the No. — spot in three polls &

men's cross country, women's soccer and men's soccer &

while Albertson topped the volleyball poll and Corban was the top-rated women's cross country team.




SOU's women's cross country team and women's soccer team both are rated fifth in their respective leagues.




The SOU volleyball team, which finished 18-9 last season, picked up 107 points in the poll. Albertson, which won its first conference title in 24 years before advancing to the national quarterfinals in 2006, gained 121 poll points, including all 11 first-place votes. Concordia is third with 93 points and Oregon Tech is fourth with 91.




In the men's cross country poll, Concordia picked up 117 points and eight first-place votes. Albertson (101) and SOU (100) were seperated by just one vote, while Eastern Oregon was third with 92 points. Both Albertson and SOU picked up one first-place vote.




Southern Oregon's fall sports season begins Aug. 18, when the SOU women's soccer team hosts Humboldt State in a 2 p.m. friendly. The first counters take place Aug. 24, when the SOU women's soccer team travels to Klamath Falls to take on Oregon Tech and the SOU volleyball team travels to Fresno, Calif., to play its Fresno Pacific Tournament-opener against Azusa Pacific.




Pop Warner




Ashland will host the Rogue Valley Pop Warner Jamboree from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at Raider Stadium.




Thirty-two teams which compete primarily in the league's three main levels &

Mitey Mites, Junior Peewee and Peewee &

will participate in 30-minute scrimmages with revolving possessions. Ashland's Peewee team, made up of players (ages 10 through 12) who helped Ashland capture the Junior Peewee state championship in 2006, will also participate.




Admission costs $2.




Ashland will be sporting new uniforms at the Junior Peewee and Peewee levels thanks in part to a $500 donation by Ashland Kiwanas and a car wash fundraiser at Ashland Texaco.
