Tap your troubles away next week when mother and daughter tap dance team Denise Pennington Scheerer and Angel Pennington return to Ashland for a special one-night-only concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Southern Oregon University's Music Recital Hall, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland.




The two dancers have performed in the Rogue Valley at Oregon Cabaret Theatre, Carpenter Hall and at Rogue Music Theatre. They have also performed together at the Four Queens Hotel in Las Vegas, as well as the Jazz Bakery and the Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles.




Tapping along with the Penningtons will be local dancer/choreographers Suzanne Seiber and Jim Giancarlo. Talent-born Seiber has performed with many local theatres including OCT, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Rogue Music Theatre and is a Dickens caroler annually at Winchester Inn in Ashland.




Giancarlo is the artistic director of Oregon Cabaret Theatre where he directs and choreographs many productions. Both are dance instructors at SOU. Seiber and Giancarlo are long-time dance partners and have been friends and colleagues of the Penningtons for many years.




Denise Pennington Scheerer danced at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas before moving to Seattle where she founded and performed with the jazz dance company "That's Jazz" and choreographed productions for many Seattle theatres.




Since moving to Los Angeles she studied and performed with tap dance legends Eddie Brown and Sam Weber as well as performing with the "Jazz Tap Ensemble."




Denise is currently working with Steve Zee and the newly formed tap company "L.A. Ironworks." She also teaches workshops and master classes and is an instructor at Loyola Marymount University, the Colburn Performing Arts School, Hama's Dance Center and the Tap Academy.




Providing music for the evening of tap and jazz will be local musicians Paul Jenny, Tom Freeman, Jeff Addicott and Dal Carver along with special guest vocalist Priscilla Quinby.




Denise will teach a master class at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the SOU Dance Room, 132 McNeil Hall. Cost for the tap master class is $20 or $15 if preregistered.




Tickets for the concert are $15 general admission and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at Paddington Station, Ashland or at the door.
