Governor Ted Kulongoski has appointed Ashland homebuilder Larry Medinger as chair of the Oregon State Housing Council, effective July 1.

Medinger, now in his second four-year term, has served on the council since July 2001. He replaces Balthazar Ortiz of Sandy. Ortiz served as chair since 2004 and recently retired from the Council.

The seven-member Oregon State Housing Council sets housing policy, considers program standards and sits in judgment of loans and grants for Oregon's affordable housing projects funded through the Oregon Housing and Community Services Department. OHCS is the state's housing finance agency and community services program administrator.

The department provides financial and program support to create and preserve opportunities for quality, affordable housing for Oregonians of lower and moderate income, and administers federal and state antipoverty, homeless, energy assistance and community service programs.
