Ashland used 12 runs over the first two innings of Game — to hand North Medford its first loss of the season, but the Mavericks rebounded with early offense of their own for a twin-bill split in American Legion A play Monday.

The Pilots won the opener easily, 14-3, and North took the nightcap 6-2.

Ashland hurler Garrett Tygerson allowed three runs on five hits and hit a bases-clearing triple in Ashland's seven-run first inning.

In Game 2, Blake Mitchell pitched six strong innings and stole home in the first inning to put the Mavericks up 2-0. Mark Cokenour followed with a two-out, two-run single to make it a 4-0 North Medford lead.

Mitchell went 4-for-5 on the day, and Kody Stevens was 2-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs in the opener for the Mavs (9-1).

Max Gordon was 3-for-3 with two runs, and Lewis Sebrell connected for three hits with three runs and two RBIs in the first contest for Ashland, which got two hits each from Owen Baldrica and Billy Russo in Game 2.
