173;Ashland High's top boys doubles team of Kyle Lachmund and John Weighter bounced back from a first-round loss at the state tournament to win the OSAA Class 5A consolation championship Saturday at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.




Lachmund and Weighter won two straight pro-set matches (first team to eight games) to advance to the consolation finals, where they defeated the tournament's No. 4-seeded team, Jake Troychak and Ryotaro Akashi of Sherwood.




Lachmund and Weighter, both seniors, earned an 8-2 win in the first round of the consolation bracket and an 8-5 win in the second round.




The Ashland duo advanced through the pig-tail round of the championship bracket by default before being bounced into the consolation bracket. The No. — seeds from Corvallis, Cody Levien and Clark Lawton, did the honors, but not without a fight. The two teams split the first two sets before the Levien-Lawton duo finally prevailed, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.




Levien and Lawton won their next match as well before losing to the No. 2 seeded team in the semis.
