  • Dry weather conditions and gusty winds in the Illinois and Applegate valleys have both areas at high risk for wildfire starts today, the National Weather Service reported.
The agency will issue a red flag warning from 1 to 8 p.m. today because of the dry conditions.
In a message issued this morning, weather officials said gusty winds will be generated in western valleys over the next few afternoons. Winds of up to 15 mph with 25 mph gusts are anticipated.
"A warm and dry weather pattern will combine with these gusty northerly winds to produce the potential for critical fire weather conditions in the Illinois and Applegate valleys," the message reads.
