John E. Jack Babbitt, age 76, died peacefully after a valiant battle with cancer. Jack was born in Dayton, Washington, to Clifford and Lavonne Babbitt, the youngest of three children. He later moved to Ashland, Oregon, where he attended high school. Jack married early and had six children: Cyndy Wood, Dana Babbitt Rensi, John Babbitt Jr., Kelly Van Ortwick, Tim Babbitt and Chuck Babbitt.
He married the love of his life, Roberta Bobbie Babbitt, in 1975 and welcomed a step-daughter, Becky Husser. Jack and Bobbie lived briefly in Medford, Klamath Falls, Portland, and later in Salem where they made their home.
In addition to his children, he is survived by a brother, Don; 10 nieces and nephews; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bobbie; and sister, Fern.
Jack loved the outdoors. Some of his favorite times were spent hunting and fishing, especially with his good friend, Gerry Hough, who also preceded him in death. Many a summer was spent camping and water skiing with his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Fish Lake, September 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
