 Posted: 10:35 AM July 17, 2014

U.S. Rep. Greg Walden will speak at the mobilization ceremony for the Oregon Army National Guard's 41st Infantry Brigade at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, at Southern Oregon University's McNeal Pavilion, 1465 Webster St., Ashland.

The National Guard is mobilizing three battalions to Afghanistan this summer, with 275 soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 186th Infantry Regiment — headquartered in Ashland — deploying.

Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown and Adjutant Gen. Dan Hokanson will also speak at the ceremony.

While in town, Walden also will tour the Ashland Forest Resiliency Project, which pairs local and federal agencies and private partners to reduce the risk of wildfire in the Ashland watershed.
