  • One of Roy Hirofumi Saigo's first actions as the interim president of Southern Oregon University was to announce the retirement of Provost James Klein, effective Aug. 31.
The university announced Tuesday that Associate Provost Susan Walsh took the reins as interim provost and vice president of academic and student affairs, effective Monday.
"SOU has benefited greatly from Dr. Klein's leadership in Academic and Student Affairs. We wish him the very best in his retirement and thank him for six years of dedicated service to SOU," Saigo said in a release posted on SOU's website and Facebook page.
Saigo became interim president on July 1 to replace Mary Cullinan, who took a job as president of Eastern Washington University.
Walsh has been associate provost and director of graduate studies since 2010. Before that, she was a professor in the communications department for many years.
