Ashland City Band celebrates Ginger Rogers's life

 Posted: 7:00 PM July 15, 2014

The Ashland City Band, directed by Don Bieghler, will play music to celebrate dancer Ginger Rogers' birthday, at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 17, in Butler Band Shell in Ashland's Lithia Park.

Look for Julius Fucik's "The Grumbly Old Bear," with bassoon soloist Karen Basin. The Dixieland Band will play at 6:16 p.m.

The concert is free, part of a long-standing summer tradition. The 70-piece community band is a descendent of the Ashland Brass Band, formed in 1876.

For a little bonus Ginger Rogers' trivia, she was born July 16, 1911, in Independence, Mo. She died April 25, 1995.
