Oregon lost jobs in June

 Posted: 3:15 PM July 15, 2014

SALEM — Oregon's string of monthly jobs gains has come to an end after nearly a year.

The state Employment Department said Tuesday that employers cut 4,300 jobs during June.

The Oregonian reported the losses were widespread, spanning blue-collar and white-collar industries, as well as low- and high-paid jobs.

Construction companies had been adding workers at a rapid clip, but cut back by about 3,600 jobs. The figures are seasonally adjusted.

Cuts also came in the manufacturing, business services, leisure and hospitality, financial and retail sectors.

The unemployment rate remained 6.8 percent for the third straight month. It's been at about that level for much of the year.

Job growth and the unemployment rate are calculated in separate surveys.
