ASHLAND — Jim Beaver, former chief communications officer for Southern Oregon University and The Evergreen State College, has opened a public relations firm called Beaver Communications.
The consulting company specializes in civic engagement, issues management and strategic communications.
In the 1990s, Beaver owned The Communications Group, which served local governments in the West, public agencies, medical practices and corporations.
The Communications Group and independent graphic designer Laura Kay won a national award for creating the brand identity for Lithia Auto Stores. The firm also collaborated with Rogue Design Group to develop the brand identities for Jackson County, the Ashland Fiber Network and many other businesses and organizations in Southern Oregon.
Beaver Communications' consulting services include communication audits, strategic communication planning, public event and project management, media training, media relations and crisis communications, and collaborates with other creative professionals to produce print, online and video campaigns.
He began his career as a broadcast journalist, reporting at NBC radio affiliate KING in Seattle. He anchored and reported for NBC-owned and operated radio stations in San Francisco.
