Matt Flynn had a big day at the plate for Ashland but the Pilots blew an eight-run lead in the second game and were swept at home by Weed, 4-2 and 13-11, in American Legion A action Friday at North Mountain Park.
Flynn was 1-for-2 with two RBIs in the first game and 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs in the second to lead the Pilots (5-7), who led the second game 7-0 after one inning and 9-1 after two.
In Game 1, Kyle Milgram held Weed to three runs in five innings before Evan McLennan, who just completed his seven-grade year, took over in the sixth. Ashland had a chance to tie the game with runners at second and third with two out in the bottom of the seventh, but Jose Perez popped up to end the game.
In Game 2, Ashland had plenty of hits but couldn't hold down Weed, which had 16 hits. For Ashland, Aaron Scott was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI, and Shea Scott 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.
