OLD LYME, Conn. — Ashland native Jason Allred shot a 4-under par 67 Monday to tie for second in a field of 71 and qualify for the Travelers Championship, a PGA Tour event that begins Thursday in Cromwell, Conn.
Allred was consistent in the one-day qualifier at Black Hall Club, sinking two birdies on the front nine and two on the back in a bogey-free round. His final birdie, which proved to be the clincher, came on the 17th hole — a 165-yard par 3.
Allred finished tied with Marc Turnesa, one stroke behind winner Lee Janzen and one ahead of four players who tied for fourth.
Only the top four finishers qualified for Travelers Championship, which boasts a $6.2 million purse. It will be broadcast by both CBS and GOLF.
