Ashland's Jerry Carroll drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh in Game 1 before visiting North Medford claimed Game 2 in a rout in an Area 4 baseball split Friday at North Mountain Park.
Carroll's RBI single to left brought home Aaron Scott from third after Scott led off the inning with a bunt single, giving Ashland a 5-4 victory.
The Mavericks exacted their revenge in the nightcap, however, as Honus Kindreich pitched four solid innings and North Medford pulled away by scoring seven runs in the sixth en route to a 12-2, six-inning victory. The game was called before Ashland batted in the bottom of the sixth after the lights went out.
Ashland's offense exploded in the first game, as Scott, Jerry and Jesse Carroll, Caleb Bell and Jose Perez had two hits apiece. Scott was 2-for-4 with two runs and Jerry Carroll was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Bell started on the mound for Ashland and surrendered three earned runs on six hits in five innings with four strikeouts and four walks. Jesse Carroll took over in the sixth and held North Medford to one run on one hit with two strikeouts.
In the second game, Scott was 3-for-3 with two runs and Bell 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Grizzlies (2-2).
For North Medford, catcher Greyson Wolff and Preston Johnson both went 2-for-4 with a run. Johnson had a double.
Ashland starting pitcher Nick Sanderson gave up two runs on two hits in four innings of work. He struck out five and walked two.
