Competition puts artists out in the vineyards

The Southern Oregon Grape Fair and Talent Public Art Committee will host a timed plein air painting competition Saturday, June 21.

Competitors will paint outside in Talent and Phoenix-area vineyards for four hours. They can use pastels, watercolor, oils, pen and ink, colored pencils or mixed media.

Artists can pick up information packets and have their blank canvas stamped from5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 20, or from 7 to 8 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at the public art committee booth, located next to Camelot Theatre in the Grape Fair area. There is no fee to enter.

All art must be completed and turned in, framed or on a canvas, by 1 p.m. Saturday. The work will be judged at 1:30 p.m., followed by awards. Art will be displayed through the afternoon and some pieces may be for sale, organizers said.
