Amendment blocks climate change action
FACT: Carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels are one of the major greenhouse gases affecting climate change and global warming.
FACT: Carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere are the highest they have been over the past 800,000 years!
FACT: Public health, national security and our economy are all endangered by the mounting carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. Military leaders, scientists and health experts agree.
FACT: We have the know-how to stem this tide, but it requires governmental help. Unfortunately, too many politicians owe their jobs (campaign contributions) to the fossil fuel Industry.
FACT: On May 22 the most corrupt in Congress passed the McKinley amendment that in effect denied these facts and seeks to prevent our military from addressing them. Read the details: http://huff.to/1xeodTW
FACT: Greg Walden voted for this amendment to keep us from addressing climate change. This vote shows that his concerns are not with our economy, not with our health and certainly not with our security.
I am outraged and sick at heart that greed and corruption are trumping future life.
But I am encouraged that our president and the EPA on June 2 proposed an important first step to limit carbon pollution from power plants.
Washing parking lot was a waste of water
Regarding the recent Wednesday cleaning of the pay parking on Hargadine Street, I am frustrated and irritated that in the current drought, an "environmentally green" town like Ashland has decided to waste precious water washing concrete. To be perfectly frank, the parking lot was not even dirty!
If Ashland would like to continue to be considered the ultra-green, feel-good town that it should be, perhaps it should consider more responsible usage of incredibly scarce resources. It's only the beginning of June and the grass has begun to go brown — water conservation should be on the top list of everyone's priorities.
Columnist offers more evidence of voter fraud
The Monday, June 2, Ashland Daily Tidings ran a column by Hans Von Spakovsky of the Heritage Foundation titled, "Justice Department blind to Virginia voter fraud."
The moral high ground on this issue is rightly addressed by columnist Devvy Kidd. Consider the online video "Vote Fraud with Devvy Kidd" at YouTube. Also, "Voters, Again, Choose Their Own Destruction" by Kidd posted May 11, 2014 via News With Views at www.newswithviews.com.
