Eight Ashland High baseball players have been voted to the Southern Oregon Hybrid Class 5A all-star team, including player of the year Eric Carlson.

The Grizzlies, who swept three games from Eagle Point to claim the two-team league, had three infielders, three outfielders and three pitchers voted to the all-star team, with Steen Fredrickson earning nods as both an outfielder and a pitcher.

Carlson, a senior third baseman, batted .478 during the regular season with 10 doubles, 28 RBIs and 26 runs scored to lead one of the most potent offenses in 5A baseball. He then went 6-for-8 in the postseason to finish with a .500 overall batting average.

Carlson, freshman first baseman Nick Sanderson and sophomore shortstop Aaron Scott were Ashland's all-league infielders; senior center fielder Bryce Rogan, junior right fielder Fredrickson and junior left fielder Max Montgomery were Ashland's all-star outfielders; and Fredrickson, and seniors Tommy Hulick and Carter Glick were the Grizzlies' all-star pitchers.

Fredrickson was rewarded for both his batting prowess and his consistency on the mound, where he was 5-5 with a 2.38 ERA during the regular season before allowing only one earned run on three hits in 4 1/3 innings in Ashland's first-round playoff win over Dallas. He also batted .315 during the regular season with three doubles and 17 RBIs.

Sanderson led the Grizzlies during the regular season in home runs (three), RBIs (29) and slugging percentage (.611), while Scott batted .342 and Rogan .330 with eight doubles.

Montgomery drove in 14 with a team-high eight stolen bases.

Hulick, who won all five of his decisions (including a shutout of Crater), had the best ERA on the team (2.03) among Grizzlies with at least 20 innings pitched, thanks in part to his excellent strikeout-to-walk ratio (42 Ks, 16 walks). Glick (4-2) had a 3.92 ERA with 54 strikeouts and 18 walks.

Ashland advanced to the 5A state quarterfinals for the seventh time in the last eight seasons before suffering a 13-3 loss to Sherwood.
