Break out the cigars: OR-7's a father

 Posted: 9:20 AM June 04, 2014

Wolf OR-7 is officially a dad.

State and federal biologists Monday observed two wolf pups in an area of southeastern Jackson County where the wandering lobo was believed to have denned with a female mate.

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists believe more pups are likely, since wolf litters typically number four to six pups.

Scat samples from the area also have been collected to determine the origination of the female.

The pups mark the first known wolf reproduction in the Oregon Cascades since the mid-1940s.
