Matt McCormick — whose video art piece, "The Great Northwest," is part of the "3" exhibit in the Schneider Museum of Art — will give a free lecture on the piece at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, in the Meese Auditorium of the Visual Arts building on the Southern Oregon University campus.
"The Great Northwest" is a multimedia piece that features a 70-minute documentary, photos and ephemera. The documentary was conceived after McCormick found an old scrapbook at a thrift store in Portland. The scrapbook documented a 3,200 mile roadtrip throughout the Pacific Northwest taken by four Seattle women in 1958. McCormick set off to re-create the journey as closely as possible in 2010.
The exhibit runs in the Schneider Museum through Saturday, May 31. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
