Flowers honor military moms

 Posted: 4:01 PM May 08, 2014

A Washington photographer wants to give free roses to local mothers and grandmothers of servicemen and women for Mother's Day.

June McKiernan, of Woodinville, Wash., will hand out roses from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in front of the Talent Friends Church at 50 Talent Ave. She says she hopes mothers and grandmothers will bring photos of their children and grandchildren who are serving in the military and feel free to share a story about them.

McKiernan's own son, Jede Peyton, 30, a second class petty officer in the Navy, is serving in Bahrain in the Middle East.

"It's a matter of recognition and showing you're important," she says. "A way of saying, 'Thank you.'"
