Ashland schools ruled in an annual Brain Bowl competition held Sunday night at the Southern Oregon Public Television studios in Medford.
Ashland High School remained undefeated to win the 2014 Varsity Brain Bowl Championship in a close match, beating Grants Pass High School 38-31.
Ashland Middle School overcame Grace Christian Middle School 46-18 to win the 37th annual Middle School Brain Bowl Championship.
The competition is similar to the popular television series "Jeopardy." More than 450 students participate each year and the competition is open to students attending all public and private schools in the region, organizers said.
The finals are broadcast through a partnership between Southern Oregon University Pre-College Youth Programs, Lithia 4 Kids and Southern Oregon Public Television.
The Ashland teams will represent Southern Oregon in this summer's National Brain Bowl competitions.
Ashland High's team is coached by Matthew McKinnon and Scott Gausen, and Ashland Middle School's team is coached by James Johnson.
