UPDATED: Semi crash blocking I-5's northbound lanes near Valley of the Rogue

 Posted: 6:55 AM March 24, 2014

Updated 8:20 a.m.

The Oregon Department of Transportation reports all lanes of traffic on northbound Interstate 5 have reopened following a semi truck crash this morning.

The truck has been removed and normal traffic flow has resumed.

6:55 a.m.

A semi crash is blocking both northbound lanes on Interstate 5 at milepost 44.

A detour has been set up between Rock Point at exit 43 and Valley of the Rogue at exit 45A, connected by Highway 99.

"We're looking at an extended closure of at least a couple hours," Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Gary Leaming said.

Medford area drivers bound for Grants Pass should leave early and expect delays.

The accident was reported at 3:30 a.m. today, according to Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon records. Preliminary information from ODOT shows a semi truck driver driving south on I-5 lost control for an unknown reason, traveled through the median and crashed in the northbound lanes, blocking them both. No injuries were reported, but some of the truck's axles are broken, which could hinder removal efforts, ODOT officials said.

It's not known what the driver was transporting. We will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
