  • CORVALLIS — Ashland overcame a rough first quarter to hang with Crescent Valley before falling short, 56-44, in a Class 5A state play-in game Wednesday.
    The Grizzlies (9-14), who trailed 10-2 after the opening period and 23-13 at the half, trimmed their deficit to five points at one point in the third.
    "The kids really played well and played hard, the shots just didn't fall," Ashland coach Jeff Schlecht said. "We had a few too many turnovers."
    Junior guard Jackson Feinberg led Ashland with 12 points, while senior guard Gabe Stanley added 11.
    Ashland hit seven 3-pointers, including two apiece by Feinberg and Stanley.
    Crescent Valley (15-8) travels to play at Eagle Point on Saturday.
