The Oregon Shakespeare Festival hosts a series of hip-hop poetry open mic nights from 7 to 9 p.m. March 10, April 7 and May 5.
These free events at The Black Swan at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, 15 S. Pioneer St., give community members an opportunity to present original poetry with OSF artists and guest poets.
For the first of the series on March 10, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival has flown in the Q Brothers, a pair of Chicago-based musicians, actors, writers, educators and DJs known for creating modern language versions of Shakespeare works and other classic stories. They will perform a 20-30 minute set, then welcome others to the stage to share poetry or music.
Poet Samiya Bashir will be featured on April 7 and Los Porteños will be featured on May 5.
OSF has produced poetry slams and open mics since 2007, striving to provide an opportunity for performance and collaboration before supportive local audiences.
