With a banjo or guitar, a kick-drum and his voice, Joshua Esterline is Acousta Noir.
Describing his music as dark acoustic, the Roseburg singer-songwriter tries to embody the lifestyle of his hometown. Esterline has an extensive background singing, playing guitar and drumming for various punk bands, and he infuses the sounds and aesthetics into the traditional folk and country influences that build the foundation for his music. Up-tempo songs such as "When the World Explodes" become equal parts Bad Religion and Woodie Guthrie.
Acousta Noir will play at 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Oberon's Three Penny Tavern, 45 N. Main St., Ashland. This is a free show.
